By the end of this year, Verizon will be the last cellular carrier to completely eliminate its 3G network, joining the rest of the telecommunications industry in shuttering the service.
Depending on location, some alarm customers whose systems use Verizon 3G communicators may have already begun to see a drop in reliable service. With only weeks remaining before 3G is completely eliminated, it’s critical that we upgrade every system that uses this expiring technology. We offer several options for upgrading outdated systems.
Without the update, a system using 3G will not communicate with the monitoring center, meaning agents will no longer be alerted of alarms at that home or business. Without reliable signals, we’ll be unable to notify the authorities in the event of an emergency.
While upgrading some systems is mandated by the 3G sunset, the update will not affect current components. It will ensure proper performance of smart devices including thermostats, lights, locks, garage door controllers, small appliance modules, and much more. These can all be accessed and controlled using your smartphone, tablet, or computer.
Most importantly, the upgrade will ensure that the system sends reliable signals to the monitoring center in the event of an alarm.
